Scholarship programs around Australia.

The AICD’s scholarship programs advance the participation of aspiring and established directors from diverse backgrounds through access to our world-class courses.

We invite applications from AICD members and non-members for our scholarship programs. Each program offering is different, and eligibility will vary.

Metro and Regional applications are now open.

This scholarship provides governance education to new and aspiring NFP directors seeking to deepen their understanding of directorship so they can give even more to the communities they serve.

Up to 375 places are available for metro, rural, regional and remote areas of Qld, NSW, Vic, Tas, SA and WA.

Applications for Metro and Regional scholarships are open from 12 May to 15 June 2025.

In partnership with BHP: Board Governance Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) and Indigenous Community Organisation Scholarship Program 2025

Applications are open from now until 11:59pm AWST - 15 June 2025.

Thanks to a $1M donation from BHP, this new scholarship program provides governance education to up to 250 First Nations executives and aspiring board directors from Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) and Indigenous Community Organisations in Western Australia and South Australia.

Each scholar will receive:

  • Enrolment into the Governance Foundations for NFP Directors course (1.5 days, in person).
  • A half-day, in-person leadership workshop.
  • Accommodation and reimbursement of travel expenses to attend the course and leadership workshop.
  • Four virtual coaching sessions focused on: Values, The board and CEO relationship, Strategic planning for the New Year, and End-of-Year financials and reporting.
  • An invitation to the AICD’s First Nations Community of Practice virtual sessions.

2026 program will open in July 2025.

With support from the National Indigenous Australians Agency, the AICD is partnering with the Australian Indigenous Governance Institute (AIGI) and The Observership Program on the second round of the First Nations Director Scholarship Program, scheduled for 2025. This program is aimed at developing a cohort of First Nations directors ready to contribute to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous boards across Australia.
